News > Rush Hour 3 is Banned in China
Written by David Morgan
Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan's third installment in the Brett Ratner directed
Rush Hour series will not be seen in China as it has been banned. There are at least two theories regarding the ban, courtesy of
Variety.
1. The film is too "politically contentious." Can you believe that? A Rush Hour movie with political contentions Some censors object to the portrayal of a Chinese crime syndicate in Paris.
2. China only allows for 20 imports per year and American films have been doing very well this summer making it a tight competition.
Another reason offered by VP Xiao Ping if China Film Group was that they didn't think the film would be popular in China, despite the fact that the first two films did very well, and Jackie Chan is a major star there. Strange logic on that last one. The others make a bit more sense.
