Rumor has it that Lionsgate is planning to shoot the fifth and sixth installments of the Saw franchise back to back, retaining director David Hackl and his crew. The other rumor coming from BloodyDisgusting.com is that 2008 may be the first Saw-less year since 2004. That's right, the unconfirmed word out there is that Jigsaw might take a year off. Perhaps this would be a result of having to shoot two feature films in the time they used to make only one.
But those two bits of news seem contradictory to me. If they're shooting back to back, it's probably to cut costs and expedite the whole process of making these sequels (not to mention to get these well-underway before the strike messes everything up). Why would they bother shooting these faster if they're just going to take 2008 off? Couldn't they shoot Saw V, send the footage off to the editor and continue filming Saw VI almost immediately?
