Some time ago we reported on a pair of rumors regarding the Saw franchise. The first was that Lionsgate would shoot Saw V and VI back to back. The second rumor was that they would take 2008 off. While information on the first rumor is still scarce, the second rumor has been debunked by Lionsgate (via MovieWeb) as they have announced that Saw V will hit theaters on October 24th, 2008. This makes a lot of sense. With the writers' strike upon us and the actors' and directors' strikes potentially coming in a few months, Lionsgate is wise to get these moneymakers into production before the unions throw a wrench into everything.
David Hackl will direct from a screenplay by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (both writers of Saw IV). And yes, Tobin Bell is expected to return as Jigsaw.
