The ink on Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio's next project, Shutter Island, will settle soon and then we can all begin the casual anticipation to The Departed's follow-up.
Working off another story from Dennis Lehane, Island takes place in 1954 and follows U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels' search for an escaped murderer that may be hiding on the titular island, according to Variety.
The bad news? Script is being handled by Laeta Kalogridis, who wrote the epic failure Alexander, but maybe that's more on the part of a crazed director and not someone who's been working with James Cameron on his Battle Angel adaptation and The Dive.
The pic'll have a lot of attention once it gets rolling, since Scorsese can finally use the old "Academy Award Winning Director" title when he prints out the one-sheets. And while we know Scorsese is comfortable sending men on horseback shooting guns, it'll still be interesting to see if both can pull out another decent film–especially when they're not working off a script provided by Siu Fai Mak and Felix Chong.
