News > Star Trek and Jerry Maguire Together at Last?

Tom Cruise, in the wake of well the last ten years of his life, is really grabbing up projects right now to put himself back in the public eye in a good way.  Lambs for Lions, Valkyrie, and now this huuuuuuuuge rumor:

IGN is reporting that J.J. Abrams wants Tom Cruise to play Captain Pike in his Star Trek re-boot.  Pike (Jeffrey Hunter) was the original captain in the shows first pilot, but when it actually went air, Kirk was the captain.  The studios hated the original pilot's dialogue-heavy intelligence and injected Kirk and a bunch of half-clad green women.  The original pilot later aired as a two-parter called 'The Cage', finding Pike a burned a bitter man.

Logistically this all sort of works out.  Abrams has made comments about wanting at least one major star (what Leonard Nimoy isn't enough for you?) in his picture, and Tom Cruise is an actor he's worked with previously (if you can call MI:3 'work').  Also, the character of Pike had an unspoken back-history with Kirk that seemingly went ten years back, deftly placing him in the supposed world of Abrams prequel.

IGN also hints that whomever they're looking for to play the villain is a big name.  Liiiiiiiiike, F. Murray Abraham?

By the way: I was watching 'Top 40 Pranks' on VH1 and they had the one where the guy sprays Cruise in the face with his microphone.  Tom Cruise is completely insane.  He doesn't like freak out or punch anyone, but you can just tell something snaps and after the premiere he probably went home and made Katie dress up in the football outfit so he could do some ass-pounding.

Nut.  Case.

I disagree. I bet he went home and lectured Katie about respecting the cock and taming the cunt, followed by loud screams for Sake.

You guys really need to get your facts straight before you print a story. The original pilot was called "The Cage." The two-parter shown later featuring a crippled Captain Pike was called "The Menagerie."

I guess that's the hazard of writing a Star Trek article, Noah. The fans will call you out on it if you make a mistake. I'll preempt another comment by pointing out that the scantily-clad green women never appeared with Kirk. Ironically enough, they were only in the "dialogue-heavy intelligent pilot."

Of all the damn people in the galaxy why Cruise?! He'll probably think Xenu is talking through the ghost of Gene Roddenberry.

Wait, there was never scantily clad women and Kirk ever on the whole show?

Why did anyone watch the show then?
