News > Voltron gets the silver screen go-ahead!

Written by: Josh Karp

Here's a bit of news that I'm more than happy to report. It looks like, according to Variety, 20th Century Fox/New Regency is oh-so-close to inking a deal with the Mark Gordon Co. to bring Voltron: Defender of the Universe to life. Hot! The Gordon Company has been hard at work developing the film. Their timing couldn't be better, with the recent success of Trasformers paving the way for future robot warrior films. New Regency is in dire need of a hit, as they've been floundering since the success of Mr. and Mrs. Smith….in 2005. Yikes! The movie adaptation will differ slightly from the animated series, with the general plot outlined below:

"…a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico. Five ragtag survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders."

I'm a huge fan of Voltron, and can't see a movie adaptation by a big studio going too terribly wrong…big budget=big robots=big fun….at least that's how I see it.

As long it is not as bad as all the Power Ranger movies.
