Jesse Bradford, Steven Weber, Bob Odenkirk, and Edward Herrmann have joined the cast of "Son of Morning," formerly called "Son of Mourning," a film about an ad copywriter who "returns home to mediate his parents' divorce and after a series of environmental disasters is mistaken for Jesus Christ." No, I don't follow the logic either.
The appropriately-named Joseph Cross will produce and star in the film which will be directed by writer Yaniv Raz, who makes his directorial debut. Cross has been previously seen in "Strangers With Candy," "Flags of Our Fathers," and "Running with Scissors."
Once Cross' character is mistaken for Christ, he is surrounded by people eager to take advantage of his fame. According to THR, Bradford will play a Hollywood agent and Weber will play a lieutenant governor, each trying to capitalize on Cross's following. Odenkirk will play his coworker and Herrmann will play his "father figure and mentor."
For having a relatively unknown writer-director, producers, and star, the supporting cast is remarkable. In addition to the four new additions, the film will feature Heather Graham, Lorraine Bracco, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Stephen Root, and Tim Curry. This picture has a lot going for it, it just needs to pull off the dubious conceit of a modern American society setting aside its skepticism and accepting a young man of little consequence as their reincarnated lord and savior. Good luck with that…
