News > "The Amphibian" coming to the big screen

Stone Village Pictures has just acquired filming and publishing rights to Alexander Belyaev's novel "The Amphibian."   The 1928 novel was originally made into a Russian blockbuster in 1962 and was released domestically on DVD by Image Entertainment.

"Amphibian" will follow the story of an American surgeon who lives in the Amazon.  There, the surgeon gives his son gills to save his life from respiratory failure.  The son will go on later to save a fisherman's daughter and spark romantic ties between them.

Stone Village head, Scott Steindorff, will produce the romantic adventure drama with Jenia Kokotuha, who brought the project to the company.  Steindorff is currently looking for a screenwriter to adopt the book into a new English translation.  He also said that the sci-fi elements of the movie will still remain, but the comedic love story will take precedence over it.

The movie is tentatively scheduled for a 2010 release.
