Producer Warren Zide is looking to make an action-comedy franchise out of the story of song-title character "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown." Known to be "the baddest man in the whole damn town … badder than old King Kong … and meaner than a junkyard dog," Brown finds himself on the wrong end of a beating when he makes a pass at a married woman in a bar.
The song was a #1 hit in 1973 for singer Jim Croce, who died in a plane crash not long after the single's success. This may sound like a crazy idea for a movie to you or me, but at least Croce's widow Ingrid is on board. She told The Hollywood Reporter:
We've always wanted to do a movie with one of Jim's character songs. The concept is about a good guy who can do no wrong. We just want him and his memory and his music to live on. Most importantly, it sounds as if it's going to be a lot of fun. And Jim liked to have to have fun.
Zide was one of the producers behind the "American Pie" and "Final Destination" movies. He is currently looking for writers.
