Good morning, kids! Smell that? That's the smell of Hollywood and TV production grinding to a halt while directors and film school kids begin crying across the country. Yep, it can only mean one thing: the strike is on for Monday.
GreenCine's got a collection of all the articles that announce the strike and Variety's coverage is the best.
But even yesterday, the first victim/matyr was produced: Heroes: Origin, the spin-off series that had Eli Roth and Kevin Smith attached to write-direct and write, respectively, stand-alone episodes. The next casualties: late-night talk shows.
As I linked to yesterday on Tubewad, Late Night hosts will most likely begin reruns or lose skits entirely starting tonight. The Daily Show will go exclusively to old episodes, as Jon Stewart announced last night that viewers should take full advantage of their new website which streams all episodes since he took over–with ads. Colbert will most likely follow suit, as neither show can operate without a writers' staff.
And you better enjoy SNL this weekend, as it'll possibly be the last "new" one to run until the strike ends.
Do expect to see a number of new "reality shows." But there is no word what will be current in-production films will really be affected. Although if we're lucky, The Weinstein Company may finally release some of the countless foreign films they keep locked in their vault to save a couple tax bucks.
