Michel Gondry recently spoke to MTV about the latest project he's writing, and it sounds on par with the rest of his oeuvre so far. Just to review, in the past four months alone, he's come up with and/or made films based on the following ideas (these are direct quotes):
1. For the Tokyo! anthology: "A girl [played by Steven Seagal's daughter] tries to move into Tokyo with her boyfriend and she can’t find an apartment or a job. She eventually turns into a chair."
2. His collaboration with his son: "We’re translating our relationship into a futuristic story with a dictator and a rebel. He’s the dictator in the story [and] it will be based on [his] art."
3. A documentary about his Auntie: "My aunt’s an amazing woman. She’s 80 years old. Most of the schools she taught in don’t exist anymore but we went on location to them. I like the idea of going somewhere with a camera and not knowing what you’re going to get."
So what's the latest and strangest idea floating around in his French head?
I’m writing a story about kids who invent a water that makes you hear music when you drink it. It’s going to be a scientific story, but completely unrealistic.
He's calling it The Return of the Ice Kings and has been talking to some actors about appearing in it, though he wouldn't say who. He also mentioned:
At one point, [the kids] see the end of time in the movie. So, we’ll have to shoot it somewhere that looks like the end of time.
I so badly want to know what place he's going to decide on.
