News > Award Shows Shrouded in Uncertainty

Written by David Morgan

The Golden Globe nominations come out this Thursday but there are some questions as to whether or not nominees and presenters will even attend the ceremony this year, as a result of the writers strike.

NBC, broadcaster of the Golden Globes, has asked for a waiver of picketing from the WGA, but it is not expected that such a request will be granted. What does this mean? The scripts for award shows such as the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards, the Independent Spirit Awards, and the Oscars will not be written, or at least not by WGA members. Variety reports that it is unlikely that these award shows will be canceled based on how much the studios and networks have invested in them, but it is unclear who will write the teleplays or whether or not actors will be willing to cross the picket lines of a strike that many of them have ardently supported.
