Top 8 of 2008:
1. Slumdog Millionaire (Best of the year, by far! Trust me, go see it if you haven’t yet!)
2. The Dark Knight (Ledger is a lock for best supporting actor.)
3. Frost / Nixon (A good piece of history, Howard strikes again.)
4. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt was emotionally flat, wish he’d done better.)
5. Burn After Reading (Hilarious!)
6. Wall-E (Directorial masterpiece.)
7. Valkyrie (Would be higher if Cruise would have gone with an accent, still great though!)
8. Doubt (Only seen the award “promotional” video, poor quality, so I’m holding out on this one.)
Also considered: Changeling, Role Models, W., Doubt, Religulous, MILK and Pineapple Express.
Worst 8 of 2008:
1. The Love Guru (Just bad.)
2. The Happening (Another epic fail by M. Night Shyamalanalana)
3. Sex and the City (The show was bad enough, a movie isn’t necessary.)
4. Gran Torino (The acting unfortunately, besides Eastwood, totally ruins this film.)
5. Speed Racer (An orgy of colors, and an orgy of awfulness.)
6. Eagle Eye (I had high hopes for this movie, but in the end it was just a disappointment.)
7. Max Payne (They need to stop making video game adaptations.)
8. The Wrestler (Good job Mickey Rourke, too bad the movie was awful.)
Also considered: Drillbit Taylor, Semi-Pro, What Happens In Vegas and Twilight.
Overall Honors:
Best Actor: Colin Farrell - In Bruges (Won’t happen, but he was fantastic in this movie.)
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight (Best performance of any actor all year.)
Best Actress: Angelina Jolie - Changeling (One of the best performances I’ve ever seen.)
Best Supporting Actress: Amy Adams - Doubt (Decent, but best available.)
Best Motion Picture: Slumdog Millionaire (Seriously, go see it!)
Comments
If you really saw Valkyrie, then you saw that he used the German accent in the beginning.
1. He transitioned to English because English nowadays is the second language of the German people anyway.
2. Every damn war movie has been in English.
3. If you really liked the movie, you would have moved past it the second he stopped speaking German and not join in on the stupid fan club who thinks, "He ain't speaking German.....Tom Cruise sucks". Hello, the rest of the damn cast wasn't speaking German either!
Frost/Nixon - Don't take the movie as a historical pic, its not a complete historic pic....the telephone scene was an add in for dramatic effect. It never happened.
Yes I realize Tom Cruise was speaking in a German accent during his writings in the beginning, but as an actor getting paid an ungodly amount of money it would have been nice to see that throughout the whole movie. Some of the actors were indeed German, so yes, some of the other actors did use a German accent.
Frost / Nixon is officially filed as an historical biographical drama, so yes it is an historical movie. Just because one or two scenes didn't happen in real life, doesn't make it non-historical.
I was hoping for constructive criticism, something I could actually use. The first comment gives no reasons, and you're points are all void based on what I've said above.
