Nicolas Cage has signed up for Alex Proyas' new sci-fi thriller Knowing. He will play a "teacher who examines the contents of a time capsule unearthed at his son's elementary school. Startling predictions in the time capsule that have already come true lead him to believe the world is going to end at the close of the week and that he and his son are somehow involved in the destruction."

Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch of Escape Artists will produce. They started the project with novelist Ryne Pearson who wrote the first draft. Subsequent drafts have been written by Stiles White and Juliet Snowden followed by Proyas and Stuart Hazeldine.

It sounds like Next (Nicolas Cage sees the future) mixed with National Treasure (Nicolas Cage finds hidden artifacts). Let's just hope they don't also mix in G-Force (Nicolas Cage provides the voice for a genetically modified mole).
