Director Guillermo del Toro recently talked with MTV about his plans regarding some major fantasy franchises. The Hobbit: He didn't really expect to end up directing it. Harry Potter: He likes the series and would consider directing the seventh movie. But he had more to say about a new adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

Before the strike he began making notes about his own "definite take" on the classic horror novel, but he says that since November 1st he's completely put down his pen in deference of the WGA. He admits, however, that he's continued drawing in his famous notebook. He says that the only way to truly depict the Shelley novel is to make a four-hour miniseries, but believes that there are "permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way."

So he's still working on this project that he's been talking about for years, but don't expect it too soon. The internet has already linked him to movies like The Champions, At the Mountains of Madness, 3993, and something called Haters. Some of these films are going to have to either be given to other directors or dismissed entirely. At least they all sound reasonably promising.
