News > Eastwood, Allen to Premiere Films at Cannes

The full schedule won't be announced until later today in Paris, but the word from Variety is that Clint Eastwood will be premiering his next film, "Changeling," at Cannes. The film stars Angelina Jolie as a mother in the 1920s whose son is kidnapped and replaced by an impostor. Woody Allen will also attend the opening weekend of the festival to present his next film, the Spain-set dramedy "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," starring Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, and Javier Bardem.

On the flip side, Barry Levinson probably won't be premiering his Robert De Niro/Bruce Willis-starring comedy "What Just Happened?" as planned. Likewise, Steven Soderbergh's dual Che Guevara biopics ("The Argentine" and "Guerrilla") may not be satisfactorily complete in time for the festival, though Cannes planners have been leaving their schedule somewhat flexible in case Soderbergh changes his mind.

Other expected (though not guaranteed) festival entries include:

  • "Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired" by Marina Zenovich
  • "The Silence of Loma" by regular "Golden Palm" winners Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne
  • "The Palermo Shooting" by another Cannes regular - Wim Wenders, featuring Dennis Hoppper and German punk rocker Campino
  • "Let it Rain" starring French comedian Jamel Dabbouze, dircted by Agnes Jaoui
  • "Daydreams" by Nuri Bilge Ceylan
  • "Linha De Passe" by Walter Salles
  • "Rudo Y Cursi" by Carlos Cuaron (brother of Alfonso)
  • "Blindness" by Fernando Meireilles (director of "City of God")

There's going to be a lot of great content, so plan your trip wisely. The festival begins May 14th and will run through the 25th.
