News > Film Industry Revenue at Record High for 2007

Written by David Morgan

After a miserable fall season (financially anyway), executives were worried about the numbers for 2007. But hooray for Hollywood, the holiday movies have helped the industry earn a record $9.62 billion in one year. The Hollywood Reporter cites that this marks a 4% increase since 2002, the previous record-holder for box office revenue.

THR also mentions that, "Ticket prices rose 2% in '07, to an average of $6.70." Really? I don't think I've seen a movie for $6.70 since middle school. That's even pretty cheap for a matinée these days.

In any event, it seems that there is still money to be made in the film industry. Happy new year.
