Guillermo del Toro is a complete ****, and there's a good chance even he agrees with me. In an interview featured on Rotten Tomatoes Guillermo explains, "I rightfully said no to Se7en, because it was a great script but it was a very cynical view of the world. I loved it, I wanted to see it, but I'm a romantic, fat bastard and I don't subscribe to that view." I respect him for admitting that despite a movie having a great script, he's simply a fat romantic (idiot) that refuses to devote two years of his life to a project he doesn't wholeheartedly believe in.
He goes on to talk about the many movies that he's turned down over the years including Harry Potter 3, Chronicles of Narnia, and a few others, which seem like they'd be right up his alley. So what exactly is Guillermo looking for in a script? Eventually he admits that he turned down Blade 2 three times, before finally accepting on the basis that it would help him get financing for Hellboy. So, all that crap about losing two years of his life on a project he doesn't believe in goes right out the window, and what all the bull shit boils down is that Guillermo is a whore for Hellboy.
I can honestly say I have no problem with directors whoring themselves out for a good cause, except in this case the Hellboy franchise is anything but a good cause. Hellboy and Hellboy II are both mediocre films. Both are visually stunning but they suffer from a serious lack substance and relevance. This wouldn't really be that serious of an issue were it not for that fact that he will be directing the Hobbit. So my real concern is whether or not Guillermo del Toro can pull off the Hobbit.
Check out the interview below and you be the judge. Maybe I'm just angry because I went to a midnight showing of fat romantic movie called Hellboy II and lost out on some much needed sleep.

And honestly, I loved the first Hellboy. I'm seeing the second one as soon as I get home from work and change. I loved Pan's Labrynth. I loved Blade II and fully admit that it was the best in the series. The Hobbit Duology is going to be amazing and I am honestly surprised that Jackson and del Toro haven't worked together before. So there.
Del Toro rocks, get off your high horse. Hellboy is supposed to be a mixture of camp, action, and the bizarre not some masterpiece. For that matter, the man at least can make a masterpiece...Pan's Labyrinth, anyone? Cronos?
@ Adri G, while I agree with most of what you're saying - I wouldn't go far as to say he's an asshat. and yes, FW should have fucking known better not to let that slide. Where's the ADMIN!!!
@ Apocalyptic0n3, I don't know why'd you leave the site for one article? Are you fucking related to the guy? Also, why and who called you dumb? I'd actually like to hear more about that. Cause I'm a nosy prick.
@ DraytonSawyer, haha Cronos. You're a clown. But I guess the old saying is true, "Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one." And btw, the Cuaron directed Harry Potter was clearly the best one of the series. And I hope you're not trying to compare Cuaron to the likes of Del Toro. They are clearly not in the same league.
Oh, and I did happen to catch Hellboy 2 earlier today and "Adri G" is correct in basically saying the movie was just as lame as the first one. That's my two cents.
As far as Del Toro and those other movies are concerned, I'm with Drayton on this.
And for those of you that want to know, I saw Hellboy II yesterday. Quite the movie. I still think the first is better but only because I think they gave del Toro too much money for this. He takes things to the extreme when he has money. He'll be fine with The Hobbit because Jackson and WETA will keep him in check. But it was still a wonderful movie. And to the writer of this article, in this new millenium there has only been one masterpiece film in my opinion and it was Pan's Labrynth. And... look at that. Guillermo del Toro created it. The man is one of the greatest living directors. Spieldberg, Scorcese, Spike Lee, Jackson, del Toro. That's how it goes.
Also, why wouldn't I compare Cuaron to Del Toro? They are both out-of-the-blue Mexican directors that have, according the majority of critics, made leaps and bounds in their respective genres. Also, I never said I hated Cuaron's entry into the Potter series, i just thought his talents were very under-appreciated by the fans of said series and, most importantly, wasted on drivel for attention deprived kids. Not that I'm bashing that series in it's entirety, just making a generalization for the sake of argument.
Nice, I got a good laugh out of that line. Good stuff.
