Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco, the writers/producers (with Haggis directing as well) of the Oscar-winning Crash, are suing Bob Yari Productions, claiming that they are owed $4.7 million. Haggis and Moresco had been promised a three-tiered payment plan based on the film's financial success. According to Variety, they filed a complaint as follows:
The complaint alleges that Yari agreed to finance the picture with a budget not to exceed $7.5 million. An August audit, according to the suit, revealed bogus charges that were improperly included by Yari against adjusted gross profits. The suit seeks money damages, imposition of a constructive trust and an accounting and disgorgement.
With the strike on, Haggis is probably looking to get cash wherever he can find it, and who can blame him? $4.7 million is a big chunk of change. More than half the budget of the movie he made in fact.
