News > Jackie Chan in Negotiations for 'The Karate Kid'

Ohh my word, in more depressing news Jackie Chan is in final negotiations to star in The Karate Kid remake.  That's right ladies and gentle fiends, he will be taking on the role of Mr. Miyagi or a mentor like character for Jaden Smith who will take on the role of Daniel-Son or Lil Krump-Son or something.

According to Variety, Harald Zwart will direct the the film that will begin shooting early this summer in Beijing.  Jerry Weintraub, James Lassiter, Will Smith and Ken Stovitz are producing with China Film Group Corp. will co-produce in China.

Set in an exotic Asian locale, the new film will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth (Smith) learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor (Chan).

Disaster in the making…

I agree, a Chinese person cast as a Japanese person and a cute little kid with Orphan Annie hair sounds like a Little Rascals skit. As a Hollywood feature film release... might as well put Chris Tucker as the kid, it's going to unfortunately (b/c The Karate Kid is a classic and shouldn't be remade) bomb. Maybe if the director was Michael Bay, it could've been saved, he would throw in some explosions and Aerosmith-like theme music
