Wow, considering that his second feature, Juno, hasn't even seen a release date yet, the buzz is incredible. Screenwriter Diablo Cody is the latest buzzword and Jason Reitman is being paired with her again to direct her horror comedy script, Jennifer's Body.
The film follows a plain jane who has to kill her popular friend once she's possessed by a demon and begins murdering her classmates. Then the plain jane friend has to break out of jail and stop the Satanic rock band who did the initial demon summoning from doing it again.
From The Hollywood Reporter:
"Comedy and horror have always been inescapable cousins," Reitman said. "They both draw a similar type of storyteller, one who wants to manipulate the audience. Whether you want to make an audience laugh or you want to make an audience freak out, you're looking for a similar firsthand relationship with the viewer where you are pushing them to react."
Body looks to star Megan Fox, most likely as the hot friend, since she wouldn't be plain or a Jane even if you Ugly Betty-ized her. And "Ugly Betty-ized" is an appropriate term.
This certainly raises the hype for Juno further and further, since if it tanks, it certainly won't bode well for this seemingly wonderful concept of Evil Dead gone wild. Or Idle Hands but with less whining and more gore. Mmm, gore.
