News > Long-Time G.I. Joe Storyteller Larry Hama Joins the Battle

Written by Lucas C Haberstich

Today's dose of Joe news: If you're familiar with Marvel Comics' long-running G.I. Joe comic (1982-1994), this news will make you flip your H.I.S.S. tank.  According to an exclusive report from the Latino Review, writer Larry Hama will be joining the writing team for Stephen Sommers' upcoming action flick based on Hasbro's popular toy franchise.  Most likely taking the role of "creative consultant", there could not be a better choice for the job.  Having written more than two hundred G.I. Joe comics along with the majority of those file cards that came on the back of each action figure's packaging, Hama is also responsible for the creation and development of such popular Destro, Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow and Zartan.

I have a huge stack of those file cards in a box somewhere, but somehow this movie didn't have my attention until Hama joined.  He always managed to tell intelligent, entertaining, and often very real stories that seemed beyond the call of duty for what many dismissed as just a children's toy comic.  Now, more than ever, the sentiment stands: "Yoooooo Joe!!!!!"

EDIT: a crucial letter was changed.

You do realize it's "Yo Joe!" not "Go Joe!" right?
