Michael Mann will helm Frankie Machine for Paramount Vintage, with Robert De Niro to star and produce the film.
Marking the second time De Niro and Mann worked together since Heat, the film is based off the Don Winslow novel " The Winter of Frankie Machine," focuses on a mob hitman who leaves the business to run a bait shop until he's coerced into helping a mob boss' son resolve a dispute–and eventually gets double crossed. Essentially, it sounds like the Made version of Shooter and every other B-Movie double-cross film.
De Niro's been attached since Paramount initially acquired the rights in 2005, but confirms with Mann attached.
Mann currently ordered a major overhaul of the script according to Variety, which could be a good thing. We hope.
