Editorials > Mark Wahlberg is Max Payne (There is a God!)

What is it with Hollywood and their nifty casting choices lately that deal with high profile video game adaptations? First it was Timothy Olyphant as Agent 47 and now we have Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne? Whoah, is the world coming to an end that I don't know of? Well according to Variety, Wahlberg will be playing Max Payne in the adaptation that most of us gamers have been anticipating for over 6 years. For those of you poor souls who don't know who Max Payne is, here's a snippet from Rock Star:

Max Payne is a man with nothing to lose in the violent, cold urban night. A fugitive undercover cop framed for murder, and now hunted by the cops and the mob, Max is a man with his back against the wall, fighting a battle he cannot hope to win.

Sounds like an excellent and perfect role for Wahlberg. John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines, Flight of the Phoenix and The Omen) will direct a script written by Beau Thorne.

Ummm, does this sound like his last movie, Shooter to anyone else? Cool that the movie is being made. Sucks that Mark is becoming a cliche role player.

I just think he's way wrong for this. For this to work, they have to find a guy who IS Max Payne (i.e. a no-name), but no studio will ever go for that.

Your shitting me right? As soon as Wahlberg opens his mouth he will ruin the movie.

I seriously thought that Bruce Willis would have been a really awesome Max Payne
As for Splinter Cell, it would have to be a definite George Clooney. He looks exactly like Sam.
Ironside's voice is amazing though. Dubbing? hah
