Marlon Wayans will play Ripcord in Stephen Sommers's adaptation of the popular cartoon and action-figure line GI Joe. He joins a cast that already includes Rachel Nichols, Sienna Miller, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ray Park, Byung-Hun Lee and Said Taghmaoui. Variety describes Ripcord as the "leader of the military unit" and mentions that the action takes place ten years in the future, something I'm not sure we knew before. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also in talks to join the cast.

It's amazing that with a cast already getting to be a good size, Marlon Wayans is really the first "household name" (aside from debatably Sienna Miller). He's also, thus far, one of two Americans (Nichols being the other, Gordon-Levitt could be a third) in a film presumably about "real American heroes." I'm not complaining by any means, just noticing.
