Editorials > New Sheriff in Town

Hello everyone! Before you decide to abandon ship, I would like you all to know that we've gone through some editorial/staff changes recently. The unfortunate side effect was angering you guys, the readers. So I'm going to keep this short and sweet.

I am very sorry for what you've had to endure over the last month or so, but please understand that I'm going to change things for the better. You can expect better topics that actually have to do with Film, and a more constant stream of news. In fact, I'm going to be cleaning up the homepage in just a few seconds… There, that should do it.

I've been running BamKapow.com for a few months now, and I've seen it grow into something truly awesome. I'm going to do the same thing here, I promise you that.  If you guys are up for it, I'd like for you to stick around. If not, I am deeply sorry we lost you guys as loyal readers. And on that note, l'm going to get cracking on the updates.

One of the posts you should be removing is the Guillermo Del Toro piece directly below this post. Calling a director not named Uwe Boll an "asshat" isn't news, it's pure opinion. If you would like to maintain a credible site, I suggest reigning in the writers and giving them some journalism tips.

Touche. Since the topic is relevant to news... I'll leave it up. However, what I can do is edit out the asshats. I certainly know that you guys are upset about what was written, but I have to leave the opinion up for journalism sake. Despite the fact that its a very harsh criticism of Del Toro.

I don't want FilmWad to be known as a wishy-washy site either. In time, we will put up better and more engaging content to wash out the memory of that blasted Del Toro post.

Honestly, why would you bump the Guillermo del Toro piece back to the top? Or in any case, why would you leave it up at all? You're trying to revamp, but you're not starting out on the right foot.

I gotta say, despite having argued against the opinion in the Del Toro piece, that Frank is right. Op-ed pieces are commonly found in film sites and it's great to be able to voice our opinion despite what it is. I do however think there is a right way and a wrong way and that guy just had zero validation behind his point. Whatever the case, I'm glad to find out that FilmWad is back on track.

Well and speaking of changes: Why aren't the names of the authors in the articles? They only show in the list on the main page.
It would be nice if you could see them in the articles and probably click them to find a list of what that specific author has written lately to better understand his point of view.

You guys bring up good points. I will see what I can do.
Frank Movsesian on 07/15/2008 4:49pm
Also, now that I have your attention, is there anything on the site you'd like to see us change? As far as layout or content?

an entire fresh look wouldnt be bad, but I'm not going to ask you to bust your ass on all that already. I do remember there being some talk awhile back about giving the actual film news the main center of the page, and having the editorials on the sidebar. Basically a flip flop of the way they are now.

It does please me to hear Film Wad may (hopefully) be under better control. I hope it is, and I hope this site lives up to its full potential. Like Drayton said, I have no problem with the editorials but they do need to be screened. I'm all for reading a good rant, but a good rant isn't a good rant unless it has plenty of validation behind it and actually makes you go.."hey...that's a good point".

King Kracka on 07/15/2008 7:08pm
Now that I'm thinking about it, I'd be pretty satisfied if the editorials were screened simply well enough to keep the horseshit out. I've read some really great editorials here on FilmWad(the "why Christian Bale is a bad ass" article comes to mind) but I've also seen some grade A shit here (many things posted recently come to mind).

Just a simple screening of editorials would be a huge step in the right direction, just to keep out the total nonsense.

A forum wouldn't be a bad addition...
King Kracka on 07/16/2008 00:12am
Very true.
Frank Movsesian on 07/16/2008 08:34am
All right, I'll keep all that in consideration! What would you guys think if I made the left side nothing but trailers, and the middle news/editorials?
King Kracka on 07/16/2008 10:32pm
I say it's worth a try. Give it a shot and we'll try it out, see how it goes. Also, this proves we need a forum, so we don't have to keep coming back to this editorial to post. Then we could have a dedicated thread for this kind of stuff.
