On First FX Shot of the New USS Enterprise at 08/15/2008 01:37am
As a Star Trek fan, I like this design. If this is an actual film still of the re-imagined Constitution Class Enterprise, then they got it right. Frankly, the 1964 design needed to be updated for modern presentation, model making, and HD era. True Trek Fan is wrong. Next Gen and DS9 were worthy to the original 1966 show, even so much that the original cast members have said so and appeared in episodes. Considering how wishy washy the decision making on canon the original series, this image is indeed the genuine article, I think its a great tribute to Matt Jefferies original design. I'm sure Jefferies himself would approve considering what he had to work with in 1964.
Its comments like that that makes Trek fans look really bad. Some alteration and modification of those designs are necessary for the massive mainstream audiences. As long the core principles are intact like the evolution of mankind, the exporation, non-interference directives, and boldly going where no one has gone before. That is what is necessary to preserve the true spirit of the classic Star Trek.
