Plot-
“Up-and-coming sports reporter (Hartnett) rescues a homeless man ("Champ", Jackson) only to discover that he is, in fact, a boxing legend believed to have passed away. What begins as an opportunity to resurrect Champ’s story and escape the shadow of his father’s success becomes a personal journey as the ambitious reporter reexamines his own life and his relationship with his family.”

First of all, i hate Josh Hartnett. To me he falls under that category of being famous and getting work because he is eye candy for the ladies, same with colin farrel, freddie prinze jr…etc.
His “acting” in this movie is just like his “acting” in every other movie, shitty to say the very least. Samuel L. Jackson is very convincing as a crazy ex-boxer bum who likes to refer to himself in the third person as “the champ". He is very entertaining always replying to the question “how are you doing?” with the same “oh about 60 percent” depending on his mood. Josh hartnet’s character is a dumbass, plain and simple. He is stupider than Marty McFly in back to the future, always doing stupid shit and never taking responsibility for his own actions and blaming everyone else for not living up to his famous dad’s expectations. There are some moments that try to be truly touching but get ruined by a number of things, whether it’s the stupidity of Hartnet’s character or the outlandishness of the “based on a true story” aspect. I don’t know about you but i hate it when a movie is “based on a true story” only to have scenes in it that you just know never happened, i know it’s hollywood and they gotta glam it up a bit but jeezy creezy…
Overall there are some good small performances by Teri Hatcher and David Paymer and especially Alan Alda, but for the most part the lethal combination of Hartnett’s crappy acting and his character’s IQ bring every scene he is in down a notch. Now i am not saying that this film didn’t entertain and i really thought i was going to be in for something different while watching it but it turned out to be your “barely above average” hollywood flick.

I say wait until it’s on dvd and netflick it or wait even longer for it to show up on cable. 6/10

This is my first review so give me a break guys.
