News > Ruben Fleischer May Direct Zombieland

Written by David Morgan

Ruben Fleischer, who until this point has mainly worked on music videos and commercials, has been tapped by Columbia Pictures to direct a zombie comedy called Zombieland. Variety describes the plot of the film by writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick as centering on "the most frightened guy on Earth who leads a motley crew of survivors in a world overrun by zombies. Title refers to an old funeral home that is turned into a morbid attraction called Zombieland." Gavin Polone is producing.

Shaun of the Dead was an original and hilarious film that very few comedies (or zombie movies for that matter) can stand up against. The creators of Zombieland must realize what they're doing here. It wouldn't be so bad if there was some sort of interesting hook that twisted the zom-com genre around, but the plot of this movie sounds an awful lot like Shaun of the Dead. Shaun may not have been the "most frightened guy" exactly, but he certainly started out as one of the most ill-equipped.

More excited for Z day. Or whatever they plan on doing with the zombie survival guide.

Look on the bright side, at least "Shaun of the Dead" didn't create a whole bunch of unfunny Zombie-Comedies. These have great potential if looked at through the eyes of the real world.
