News > Sean Astin Calls Goonies Sequel "An Absolute Certainty"

Written by David Morgan

Former Goonie, Hobbit, and David Morgan Sean Astin has declared a Goonies sequel "an absolute certainty." In his own words:

The writing’s on the wall when they’re releasing the DVD in such numbers. Steven [Spielberg] and Dick [Donner] and all the powers that be … they really feel like the thing that made the movie strong was that it was about kids, so they really want to make the next movie about kids…the next generation of Goonies. And they’ve had a hard time tackling that.

I remain as open-minded and willing to participate as I have ever been.

There's currently only one comment on the MTV article which reads "God no! please don’t! Stop ruining everyone’s good memories of classic movies by trying to recreate them. Get some new ideas. God, you suck!" Does everyone feel this way?

Yes. Hollywood has gotten fat by strangling dreams and crushing good actors and movies with its fat money grubbing hands.

What is with sequels to 80's cult classics being pondered now? Especially ones that are considering bringing back actors that are now 20 years older. I'm talking to you Goonies and Lost Boys.

Goonies sequel would be a huge mistake. I still watch the original at the age of 30. I do not think that they could recreate what that film had that made it so enjoyable.

Kids today just won't be into adventure as much as we were in the 80's. Unless it happens on their X-box 360's. Please leave this one last shred of unspoiled childhood goodness alone.
