Christopher Nolan, director of such memorable films as Batman Begins, Memento, and The Prestige, has been named "director of the year" by Las Vegas' ShoWest Exhibition Film Industry Conference. This prompts the obvious question: "Of what year?"
His last film, The Prestige, came out in Autumn 2006. His next film, The Dark Knight, will come out July 18th, 2008. Are the people at ShoWest so confident in The Dark Knight's potential that they are assuming that it will be more ably directed than any other production this year? Or can a person be director of the year without having directed anything at all? It's a curious honor, but congratulations anyway, Mr. Nolan!
