Slumdog Millionaire writer Simon Beaufoy has been tapped to write romantic comedy Leap Year.  According to The Hollywood Reporter the film starring Amy Adams is being directed by Anand Tucker and Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jonathan Glickman are producing.

Adams is playing an uptight woman who travels to Dublin to propose to her boyfriend on leap day, Feb. 29, following an Irish tradition in which women propose to men on that day and the man must say yes. When weather derails her trip, she enlists the help of a surly Irish innkeeper to make an unexpected cross-country trek to pull off the perfect proposal in time.

Harry Elfont and Deb Kaplan ("Made of Honor") wrote the earlier draft that got the project greenlit and attracted Adams.

U.K.-based Beaufoy is expected to bring the same regional and eccentric authenticity to the story that he did with his scripts "The Full Monty" and "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day."
