Stephen Norrington, director of the now-infamous adaptation of Alan Moore's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, has been hired to helm the remake of The Clash of the Titans. The 1981 original was a star-studded adventure film that showcased the innovative special effects of Ray Harryhausen.
Basil Iwanyk will produce for his Thunder Road production company. Norrington will direct from a screenplay written by the esteemed Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Big Chill). An earlier draft was written by Travis Beacham.
Robert Rodriguez had been considered for the director's chair, but declined so that he could focus on his own projects. Norrington's background is mainly in special effects and make up, but he also directed the first Blade movie with Wesley Snipes.
