Joel Surnow, "24" co-creator, soul patch devotee, and self-avowed "right-wing nut job," will develop a spy thriller for United Artists and Lakeshore Entertainment. According to Variety, he'll write the screenplay, with fellow "24" producer Michael Loceff, for Martin Campbell ("GoldenEye," "Casino Royale") to direct. That's right; the same Martin Campbell who only yesterday was cited as the director for Mel Gibson's comeback cop thriller "Edge of Darkness."
The studio would neither confirm nor deny that the untitled thriller is being set up for UA co-CEO Tom Cruise to star in. Gary Lucchesi and Tom Rosenberg from Lakeshore will produce.
