Written by John Lichman

Martin Campbell is currently rumored to be doing a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. Naomi Watts is even rumored to take on the spoiled rich girl role.

But Universal is quick to point out, as is Variety, that the film is being scheduled well past the upcoming writers' stirke and will focus more on the original short story, where the attacks took place in Britain.

Martin last directed Casino Royale. Writers are already attached and have penned a script.

Is there no shame? Re-making Hitchcock? Who do they think they are? But I like Naomi Watts as the girl... a lot. But where do you draw the line on the remakes? What's next, a Godfather remake by Brett Rattner? Some films should not be fucked with. The Birds is a classic, while not argued as his best work. Still... ok end rant.

while i do agree that remaking Hitchcock is something that should be punishable by death (to careers) for mucking things up, I'm intrigued at the notion of Campbell taking it on. He's proved himself with Bond flicks, but can he make this movie so that it will at least come close to the predecessor? Will we the audience give it the chance to do so? It should be interesting to see.
