Sam Raimi's Ghost House production company doesn't exactly have the number of hits under its belt that you'd expect from the guy whose name is synonomous with "cult classic" and "Bruce Campbell"–or is that the other way around?
But Fangoria has word that all of Ghost House's films are in line for a sequel–save for any confirmation on a 30 Days of Night follow-up.
Boogeyman 2 and 3 try to take a different spin on the first, where the sequel involves a young woman afraid of the demon in her closet–aren't we all?–so she checks herself into a mental hospital where it inevitably follows and continues the slaughter. The third film follows a college student who finds her roommate has committed suicide and the "Boogeyman" is responsible for all on-campus deaths. Boogeyman 2 goes straight to DVD in January, with 3 to follow later in 2008. Both are written by Brian Seive.
The Grudge 3 is a "culture reversal" where a Japanese woman comes to Chicago to deal with the supernatural threat's new home in an apartment building. They plan to "fight it," which is exactly what has never worked in any of these nihilistic ghost stories. Will be directed by Kidney Thieves' Toby Wilkins and scripted by The Gravedancers co-writer Brad Keene.
The Messengers 2 will be a prequel to the original film, which will surprise many as they hadn't even seen the original. So, maybe it'll be like the proper introduction? Who knows. Original screenwriter Todd Farmer returns for this one. The Pang Brothers will likely never touch a camera for U.S. release again.
Rise 2 or Rise: Blood Hunter 2 will be the sequel to a Lucy Liu vampire film with Michael Chiklis that no one saw–and it even screened at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. Not that that means quality, just…you know. Anyway, Liu doesn't return and this time some other woman gets bitten by a vampire, so she gets self-righteous and genocidal on her new breed in order to save her brother. Huh. Thankfully, Cinematical points out that director Gary Jones does have a major motion picture under his belt: Crocodile 2: Death Swamp.
With a 2008 release calendar like this, it's no surprise that Sam Raimi' s Ghost House may quickly turn into Full Moon Pictures 2.0.
